MAA2021 Transcription Events

MAA Transcription Workshop

As part of the 96th Annual Meeting of the Medieval Academy of America, the IU Medieval Studies Institute, IU Medieval Studies Graduate Student Advisory Committee, and the MAA Graduate Student Committee are hosting a Transcription Workshop Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 6pm EDT. The workshop, led by Prof. Liz Hebbard (Department of French & Italian, Indiana University), will address transcription tips and resources as well as common questions and concerns for transcribers.

No experience working with manuscripts is necessary.

Attendees to this workshop must be registered for the MAA and should access the workshop through their MAA2021 Whova Conference link.

3-day Transcribathon

The Transcribathon is an annual event hosted by the Indiana University, Bloomington Medieval Studies Graduate Student Advisory Committee (MEST GSAC). This year, the Transcribathon take the form of a three-day competition held from Thursday, April 15th through Saturday, April 17th (in conjunction with the 96th Annual Meeting of the Medieval Academy of America).

Over the course of these three days, four to five teams of six to seven participants each will work to transcribe Guillaume le Clerc de Normandie's bestiary as it appears in BnF fr. 24428 (fols. 53r - 78v).

Participants who are registered to attend the MAA's Annual Meeting should consider also attending the Transcription Workshop Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 6pm EDT; however, the Transcribathon is open to the public and no prior experience with manuscripts or transcription is necessary.
